Our Story.
Kestrix was born when we (Lucy and Matt) encountered the same problem in two different contexts.
What if you could see the heat leaks.
It seemed impossible to get precise data.
Matt, a former product manager at Google, struggled in his free time to understand what the first best thing to do to make his own home more energy efficient was, despite having grown up with his parents renovating homes around him. He wondered, "What if you could see the heat leaks?" and began experimenting with thermal drones.
Meanwhile, Lucy worked for a carbon accounting and ESG reporting company. The company’s software provided decarbonisation advice, but built environment clients needed more precise data on issues like leaky windows, which required on-site inspections. It seemed impossible to get this data without visiting every building.
Matt and Lucy met in the Carbon13 Venture Builder in 2022 and launched Kestrix, the ‘Google Maps of heat loss’ to solve retrofit’s data problem. With thermal drones and AI, Kestrix set out to map every building for heat loss, so that retrofits everywhere could be planned, prioritised, priced, and financed faster.
